It Should Be Earth Hour Everyday!

E arth Hour is the world's largest grassroots movement for the environment, organized by WWF. This year it will be observed on Saturday, 25th March from 8:30-9:30 PM.

Hundreds of millions of people in countries and territories around the world will show that they care about our planet by switching their lights off at 8.30 PM for an hour.

However, we know that the earth’s environment is changing constantly. Here are eight things you can do to help change the climate change and save planet Earth:

1. Say no to phantom energy

Electronics on standby account for about 10% of the home electricity usage. Make sure you turn off all electrical appliances when not in use. You’ll not only consume less electrical energy, but also save big on electricity bills on a long run!

2. Switch to LED light bulbs

Switching to LED light bulbs can save you an average of Rs 4000 annually on electricity bills due to energy efficiency gains and lower replacement costs because they do not need to be replaced as often as incandescent lights or CFLs. So let there be LED lights!

3. Surprise your S.O. with candle-lit dinner every now and then

Nothing says romance like a candle-lit dinner, but it is also a great way to save energy! Candles – or better still, scented candles create a romantic atmosphere with zero energy. You don’t even have to leave your home to have a perfect date night...

4. Don't waste food

When you don't eat what you have, you not only waste food, but animal habitat and biodiversity is also harmed. There are millions of people who go hungry every day, we just cannot afford to waste food with some malpractices! So, buy less so that you don’t waste it...

5. Ditch the plastics!

Plastic bags are ugly and they turn the environment unhealthy. Did you know that a unicorn cries every time you use a plastic bag? So the next time you go grocery shopping, take your own cloth bag or jute bag.

6. e-waste is a thing. Eliminate it!

As much as we love our gadgets, their production and their disposal are going to harm the environment. When we discard cellphones, computers, ink cartridges, wires, connectors and, lots of wires, they create a toxic pollution in the surrounding. The best way to reduce wastage is to buy less. Donate or sell it to someone who can use it or take it back to the store.

7. BYOM (Bring Your Own Mug to work)

If you bring your own cup to work every day, you can help save the planet a great way... Did you know that saving each disposable cup for 40 years will save 24 trees!

8. Plant a tree

Probably one of the best things you could do for your environment... and it’s the easiest too! Planting trees not only makes your area bright & beautiful while providing a better habitat, it replaces carbon dioxide from the air with oxygen.

Join hands with your friends, neighbors and colleagues to stand up against climate change for a better earth and future!
