This Independence Day weekend, consider giving freedom to a dog from a life of uncertainty! Adopt a desi stray dog if you’re planning to bring a pet home.
5. Plant a tree at Jahanpanah City Forest
We always crib about how the world is slowly succumbing to pollution, but what do we really do to make a difference? This weekend, let’s make a change! Let’s plant a tree and pledge to make Delhi a greener city...
6. Get free fitness!
The streets of Connaught Place are reclaimed by Delhi residents on Sunday mornings to get a healthy dose of fitness for free! You can try doing cycling, jogging, aerobics, Zumba, dance classes, roller skating/blading, Crosstrain, yoga, volleyball and badminton, etc. All of these sessions are provided from fitness experts... So see you there on Sunday!
7. Explore the eco-village Zorba The Buddha
Zorba The Buddha is like a bohemian retreat in Delhi. If you’re a free-spirited soul, Zorba is the place for you! Most of the activities organized here are free of cost. The programs are created to foster spiritual and creative growth. They offer courses in meditation, wellness therapies, creative arts, music and more.
8. Take a heritage walk along Lodi Gardens
Lodi Garden is quite a treat to explore. Picturesque monuments, easy walking terrains, birds and trees keeping your senses engaged... Visit the Lodi Garden for its open green space – walk, run around or do yoga! Take selfies in front of the very romantic mosques and tombs!
9. Enjoy lip-smacking langar food at Gurudwara Bangla
Open and clean holy space with room for over 100 people, no one is ever turned away from the langar food session. Visit Gurudwara Bangla Sahib for totally delectable halwa and choorma! It is best to avoid weekend rush – so visit anytime early in the morning or late at night.
10. Meet traditional folk artists at Kathputli Colony
And be dazzled by acrobats, puppeteers, folk musicians, dancers, snake charmers, sculptors, magicians, painters and bioscope makers, among others... Kathputli Colony is world’s largest community of street performers and it also has a special mention in Salman Rushdie’s “Midnight’s children”. When you’re there, do try to strike up a conversation with the residents and they’ll let you on in their history and heritage.
11. Spend an evening at Parthasarthy Rocks
It’s an open-air auditorium in JNU campus... Since it’s the “highest natural point” of the city, you’ll witness a stunning sunset. So grab your friends, a few drinks and enjoy the chill wind. This place is so serene and tranquil, you’ll end up spending the whole evening here.
