When Bharat Thakur returned from the Himalayas, he was shocked to see that the ancient 5000-year old science of Yoga had been reduced to just a few asanas practiced in a slow manner. People who had been practicing Yoga for 20 years, were still pot-bellied and unfit. The question that came to him was How could an overweight person without strength, stamina or agility move towards the higher practices of Yoga effectively Thus was born the idea to develop a new form of Yoga. An approach that used Asanas along with other Yogic techniques to work on all aspects of physical fitness - Flexibility, Strength, Cardiovascular Endurance, Agility and Coordinative Ability - to ensure that a person was optimally fit and alert in order to move towards higher practices like meditation. Bharat Thakur combined his training in Yoga and his education in modern Exercise Physiology to develop this revolutionary system that was equally steeped in the authentic traditions as well as the methods employed in modern exercise physiology. A system of Yoga where thousands of Asanas (postures) were taught. A system where every class was structured for a specific purpose and yet unique and improvised.
